How to Stop a Water Cooler Leak

Remove the water bottle; if the bottle is full or near-full, drain the water through your water coolers’ taps until visibly empty.

Drain the reservoir entirely by holding down both the cold and hot spigots / taps once the bottle has been removed.

Place a fresh bottle on the water cooler.

Watch for leaks. If none occur, you know that the first bottle caused the leak.

A reduction in flow from the taps of your water cooler may occur for several reasons.

  • The reservoir may be frozen: If water has stopped flowing from your water cooler, the reservoir may be frozen. 

Remove the water bottle.

Unplug your unit and allow it to defrost overnight.

Replace the water bottle.

  • An air pocket has blocked the flow of water

Remove the water bottle, drain the spigots, replace the water bottle, and try again.

  • The unit needs to be cleaned.

Either log a call out for a trained technician to facilitate a water cooler flush, or follow these steps:

  • Unplug the water cooler before cleaning.
  • Check to see if your water cooler is equipped with a water guard. This is the device that punctures the caps on the bottles to allow the water to be dispensed.
  • If you do have a waterguard you need to remove it. Grasp it on both sides and pull it up and out of the water cooler. Clean it with warm water. Rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean towel.
  • Rinse the reservoir out.
  • Replace the water guard kit.
  • Rinse immediately with tap water.
  • Periodically remove dirt and lint from the black wire and tube condenser on the back of the water cooler. Disconnect the power supply cord, then clean with the small brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Observance of this procedure will insure adequate air circulation so operation is efficient and economical.

If you recently experienced a power cut or outage, bear in mind it may take up to an hour or two for your reservoir to reach optimal chill again.

  • My water cooler is no longer heating, can this be fixed?

Follow the same troubleshooting steps as outlined in point #2 to resolve this issue:

Check to see if the cooler is plugged in.

If it is, please test the outlet by plugging another electrically powered item into the same receptacle.

  • Stand up slowly using your legs to push up and put the bottle on the chair mentioned in step 1. Once the bottle is on the chair take the cap or tab off of the neck and lift the bottle up to the water cooler. As you lift the water bottle up, place it at a 45-degree angle to start the flow of water into the cooler. As the flow of water increases in speed, it’s time to secure it to the base.
