How to Beat the Monday Blues: Your 3 Step Survival Guide for Mondays
You hear that awful word and your day is ruined. Sunday night blues commence the moment you hear the Carte Blanche theme music and that’s it; chaos for another 5 straight days. We ALL feel that pain, but here are three simple steps to overcome that dreaded day of the week.
1) Be your own motivator – make your own day a happy one
It’s hard when that alarm screeches at the first sign of light! But how about changing the name of your alarm to something motivational? Yes, it’s cheesy, but if you have a huge presentation due at 09:00 on Monday, set your alarm name to “Go knock ’em dead”, or something of the sorts. You are giving yourself a pep-talk and encouraging yourself with positive thoughts form the second you wake up, and that can only be good. Also, change your alarm from a ship’s horn to something more soothing, helping you ease into your morning rather than being scared into it.
2) Prepare the night before
There is literally nothing worse than awaking to chaos on any given fay, let alone a Monday. If you wake up knowing you still need to pack lunches, iron clothes, choose an outfit or prepare a speech (which, by the way, you were meant to have ready by Friday) then of course you won’t be motivated to leave the house. Try get as much done on time as you can; forward-planning never hurt anybody. Heck, why not plan a week’s dinner menu on a Sunday so that you alleviate one more piece of unnecessary stress). See where I’m going with this?
3) Have a cup of Coffee
Coffee, tea, lemon water. As long as it’s not an alcohol-based drink- have one! There is nothing more satisfying than sipping tranquilly on a cup of your favourite drink, thinking and planning your day ahead. The reason I suggested coffee, however, is due to it’s powerful anti-depressant properties. Why does coffee make us feel so good? With reference to this article, we discovered that coffee (real, proper coffee) has naturally occurring dopamine, which is the bodies’ feel-good hormone. In my books, anything that can crack a smile on a “Monday Face” is worth a try.
If all else fails, remember that after Tuesday – even the calendar says WTF! 🙂
