Renting vs Purchasing a Coffee Machine
Rentals, although are good fits for a lot of companies, are not right for everyone. The pros of a rental are that they give you flexibility to chop and change between different coffee machines until you find the right machine for you. What Aspects Affect the Price of a Coffee Machine Rental
There are essentially 5 things which affect the price of the rental. Discarding one of these will increase the price of the rental that you pay but might be worth it depending on your needs.
- Rental Term – The longer rental term you select the lower the price you pay for the coffee machine on a monthly basis but the higher overall price you pay at the end of the rental. Rental terms of over 1 year typically are rent-to-own rental schemes and usually increase year on year. A coffee machine which costs R20,000 to buy would usually rent for R1000 on a 1 year rental. On the 3 year rental term, the monthly fee would typically drop to around R600 per month but comes with the mandatory requirement to rent for the entire 36 months regardless of your circumstances or the service levels of the coffee machine supplier
- Flexibility – Allowing one to chop and change between different coffee machine options is quite a valuable feature to have but usually comes at a cost. If you want to have the flexibility to chop and change between different coffee machines whenever you like you can typically add R100 onto your monthly rental premium.
- Service and Maintenance Plans – Most rentals come with a full service and maintenance plan included but there are some coffee companies who offer a lowered rental without the service plan which you can add on for a nominal fee. A service or maintenance contract usually costs around R350 per month when itemised so if you don’t want free servicing and maintenance with your coffee machine rental you can typically request a service free option and drop your rental fee by R350.
- Linking Your Rental to Product Usage – The best way to get the cheapest possible monthly rental is to link your coffee and product usage to your rental fee. Every month there are two things which you need to pay for when renting a coffee machine ; Rental and Consumables (Coffee Beans, Milk, Sugar, Hot Choc, Tea, Etc) If you commit to use a predetermined amount of product then you can receive massive discounts on your monthly rental. If you normal rental fee is R1000 per month you can typically get a 50% discount when you commit to use the equivalent spend in product (i.e. R1000). - Coffee Machine Type and Features – Of course the price of the coffee machine bares a direct relationship to the price of the rental charged. The more features and more canisters (in the case of a vending machine) chosen the higher the price of the coffee machine and the resulting rental.
