Brand Battle: Miele vs. Jura
Miele and Jura are two prominents coffee machine brands, particularly when it comes to the South African market. In 2020, consumers are even more picky and selective about the brands they buy, particularly because they now have the means to research thoroughly online before doing so, as well as the fact that they can gauge sentiment about a brand from doing a simple “Latest Tweets” search tagging the company. Times have changed, and so have the two companies we’re putting head to head today. Which brand has more relevance in the coffee market in 2020? Let’s find out.
History of Both Companies
Miele is a German company that traditionally focused on supplying high-end domestic appliances and commercial equipment. The company was started back in 1899 (now that’s a long time ago!) but two gentlemen called Reinhard Zinkann and Carl Miele, both of which were encouraging of the fact that it should be a family owned and run company.
Jura is formally known as Jura Elektroapparate AG, a Switzerland based home appliance creator. Founded in 1931 by Leo Henzirohs, the company initially ran its own factories, but due to the fast growing nature of the business, it has outsourced its production for the past thirty years. Not quite a “family business”, we’ll have to give a point to Miele here for the personal angle, albeit that both are of course great successes in their own right.
Product Comparison: Miele vs. Jura
While Miele is well known for its upmarket coffee machines, Jura has been climbing the ranks in the same space in recent years as well. Their products have seen wonderful innovation in recent years, especially when you look at a machine like the Jura Giga X8, which is about as technologically advanced as any other upmarket coffee machine you will find. Quality wise, both brands go toe-to-toe in terms of design and durability, though Miele is more “hands on” with their approach, producing all their items directly from their own factories and workshops. We’ll have to give both brands a point for the product section; Jura for innovation, and Miele for in-house precision.
Price Comparison
When it comes to making a price comparison, it’s clear who the winner should be. Jura’s machines have typically been more cost effective than Miele’s, especially when comparing the entry level Miele machines with the mid-range level from Jura. Jura is far more competitive, and clearly targeted more of a broader market. In tricky economic times, people are looking for all the ways in which they can save some money, while still having a high quality product. Jura takes the cake here, hands down. If you’re looking for a high quality coffee machine to rent or buy, especially if you’re a first-time buyer on a budget, they’ve got you covered.
And The Winner Is…
At two points each, it’s hard to decide who deserves to get the win here. Jura and Miele are both tremendous brands in the coffee industry, supplying us with quality products for decades. When it comes to getting a new coffee machine, the brand matters less than your own needs, and how the machine will compliment that. To find out which machine will be best suited to your home or office environment, it might help to speak to an expert. Aquaspresso will be able to point you in the right direction, and perhaps reaching out to them will allow you to break the Miele-Jura deadlock at two points each. Until then, both brands get a lot of kudos from us.
