Coffee Machine Filters: What They Do, Where to Buy Them and Cost
So you’re the proud owner of a filter coffee machine, if you’re lucky enough you might even have one of those fancy types that has a set alarm to wake you up to a freshly brewed pot. Having a filter coffee machine is probably one of the easiest ways to have good quality coffee on demand. It’s cost effective, makes a considerable amount, is easy to use and maintain and it gives you what you want; straight-up, no frills coffee. However, those little paper filters you brew your coffee through can sometimes become annoying – whether it’s because of the cost or accidentally forgetting to stock up and being left stranded without your fix on a Monday morning.
Coffee Filters: Why Do I Need One?
I’m sure you’ve found yourself wondering if any serious harm could come of skipping using a coffee filter entirely; you’d gladly rather just throw that ground coffee into your “pot” and let it work it’s magic. In all honestly, in a serious pinch, that’s probably OK to do once or twice. You really should try to avoid it though; let me tell you why.
Once you’ve had a few cups of properly-brewed coffee, and suddenly switch to brewing a pot without the paper filter – chances are you’ll find a few coffee grinds have made their way into your cup. Speaking for myself (and the majority of coffee drinkers) – that’s a gross experience.
Taking this a bit further – if the coffee grounds are somehow finding their way into your coffee, they’re reaching places inside the machine that you either cannot reach, or simply overlook when cleaning. This can build up over time and actually affect the taste of your coffee – as well as the longevity of the machine. Although it is only made of single-use, high density paper, it keeps the coffee grounds in place and makes disposal a lot easier.
So in short; always use a filter!
