Dolce Gusto is one of the only all beverage machines on the market today. Why have a coffee machine when you can have coffee, hot chocolate, tea, iced coffee, vanilla latte and Milo machine in one? Dolce Gusto’s tagline is “coffee is not just black” and it certainly lives up to that.

There are two Dolce Gusto machines available in South Africa, and today we review both and compare the Circolo vs Genio vs Minime so you can decide which one is the best fit for you

Dolce Gusto Circolo:

The Circolo is the top of the range version in the Dolce Gusto range.

Circolo Features:

  • The Circolo features a flow stop technology (which is essentially a fancy way of saying it has an automatic stop function).
  • One can choose between 7 different cup size settings
  • LED lighting – Looks wise, this machine is a winner with its LED illumination which creates the effect of a spot light on ones coffee
  • 15 bar pressure pump
  • Thermoblock Heating System (meaning no waiting time for the water to heat up)

At the time of writing this, the Circolo sells for R1989 in South Africa (at a number of stores) and is currently not available for rental.

Dolce Gusto Genio or Minime:

The Genio or Minime as it is more commonly known in South Africa is Delonghi’s entry level machine in the Dolce Gusto range.

    • The consumer must prime the machine by flowing water through it prior to use.
    • Produces authentic espresso and the perfect cream with 15 bar pump pressure
    • Quickly customize beverage strength and preparation with the 7-level LED display controls
    • No preheating required with special thermoblock heating system
    • Energy-saving automatic stand-by mode after 5-minute of inactivite

Dolce Gusto Genio or Minime Price:

At the time of writing this, the Minime sells for R1199 on average at participating outlets across South Africa.

Dolce Gusto Circolo vs Genio (Minime) and my two cents:

All in all both machines are pretty similar with the main difference being the price at which each machine sells for and the look of each machine. With a price difference of only R700 we feel the decision really lies ones choice of looks.

For me I love the crazy styling of the Circolo however I have heard it being called some nasty names due to its “out of the box” styling.
