If you liked the idea of the Rancilio Silivia, but still considered it a bit pricey for its output, perhaps the Icona Pump might suit you better. This machine will set you back only R 3 500.00, and offers all that the Rancilio does in a smaller version. It also has a built-in cup warmer.

You could pick up a filter coffee machine at almost any retail store for under R 500.00, but you’d be buying a household variant that offers nowhere close to what this commercial filter coffee machine can offer. The build quality is superior, and it has two self-regulated hot plates, meaning no more burnt and soured coffee. Also, with two hot plates – it means twice the coffee in the same amount of time. For R 4 500.00 this baby is all yours.

Melitta is not as popular in South Africa as it is elsewhere, but this automatic bean to cup machine offers a sleek styling coupled with functionality. While the graphic screen display is not the best we’ve seen, the output of the machine may be similar to that which we see from the Saeco Minuto. And for less than R 5000.00, it too, is a steal.

R 2000.00. That’s it. The Russell Hobbs Nero Espresso is perfect for a young budding Barista – or a family se4tting where mom or Dad love to be hands on with their coffee making. It’s a compact solution for fresh coffee lovers. It features a Panerello-style wand, and is semi-automatic in that it still requires the skill to fill and tamp the coffee, but preparing it from there is done at the touch of a button.
